🗣️ You’re Explaining… Not Influencing

“You’re explaining… not influencing.”

Here’s something that feels like good communication…
but doesn’t actually move anything forward:

You explain the issue clearly.
You share all the context.
You walk everyone through the details.

And still…

Nothing changes.

Because explanation isn’t influence.

And when you rely on it too much…

You create 3 problems:

👉 people understand—but don’t act
👉 decisions get delayed
👉 and ownership stays unclear

Because influence isn’t about clarity alone.

It’s about direction.

Strong CSMs don’t just explain.

They guide.

They say:

👉 “Here’s what this means for us.”
👉 “Here’s what needs to happen next.”
👉 “Here’s who owns it—and by when.”

That’s the shift.

From sharing information…

To driving outcomes.

If nothing is moving…
you’re probably just explaining.

💬 Your turn: Where are you explaining clearly… but still not seeing action?

🔚 Thursday Perspective

“Clarity informs. Direction transforms.”

I’ll go first 👇

One habit I had to break:

Ending updates with
“Let me know your thoughts.”

It sounded collaborative…
but it slowed everything down.

Now I close with:

👉 “Here’s what I recommend we do next.”

Same information.
Different outcome.

Because one creates discussion…
the other creates movement.

That’s when decisions got faster.
Ownership got clearer.

Where could you shift from explaining… to influencing this week?
